Jonathan Bloom, an Institute Scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, is a leading figure in the intersection of biology and computation. With a strong background as a mathematician and engineer, Jon co-founded the Hail team at Broad, which developed systems now globally used in academia and industry to analyze sequenced genomes, thereby illuminating the biology of diseases. He also co-founded and currently heads the Models, Inference, and Algorithms Initiative (MIA), which champions education and collaboration at the nexus of biology and computation. His influential work contributes significantly to the Broad Institute's mission of accelerating disease cures through innovative academic research and large-scale data generation.
