James Field

CEO at LabGenius

James Field is the founder of LabGenius, a company he established in 2012 during his PhD at Imperial College London. With a passion for protein engineering, James's academic work included the development of a platform for targeted drug delivery using nanocages. LabGenius' mission is to use AI to harness evolution for the creation of radically novel therapeutic proteins.

The company developed EVA, an autonomous AI-driven evolution engine, to discover high-value proteins and collaborates with leading multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop new products. Under James's leadership, LabGenius has grown significantly, from 7 to 25 full-time employees, and established a state-of-the-art hybrid product engineering and life science research facility in South London.

Prior to LabGenius and his PhD, James completed a BSc in Biology with Microbiology and an MRes in Systems and Synthetic Biology, also at Imperial College London. He was awarded the BBSRC Innovator of the Year award in 2017 and featured on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for Science & Healthcare in 2018. James is a fellow of the Synthetic Biology Leadership Excellence Accelerator Program (LEAP).
